The New World - Give Thanks
Today in 1492 the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus arrives in the Americas making today Columbus Day. No mail. No banks.

Today across the border in Canada it's Thanksgiving. The Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest and don't seem to have any Pilgrims involved. But is there pie?

Two holidays - One day.

What happened to Tuesday?
All day I thought it was Tuesday. But it's not. It seems to already be Wednesday. What happened to Tuesday? Now looking at my posts I see one from said Tuesday. Now I remember it. I remember it was the beginning of fall. That's probably why I blocked it out of my memory. That or the bottle of wine I drank last night. Mmm... cheap cabernet... nothing better than that to celebrate the start of autumn. I suppose I should have celebrated with an Octoberfest brew BUT I didn't!Tuesday, September 22, 2009
Autumnal Equinox
5:18 P.M.
Marking the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere.
The sun crosses the equator.
The ecliptic and the celestial equators intersect.
The day and night are approximately equal length.
.
NOW it's time for Octoberfest!
Bring on the autumn beers!

Lots of cars
Today was the 15th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise here in the Motor City. Well actually the cruise takes place on the 16-mile stretch of Woodward NORTH of the Motor City. Over a million of people came to my hood to look at cars. I really don't understand "looking at cars" but it sure was a BIG PARTY! And an even bigger traffic jam!

Early morning shower

Long ago Perseus may gave slain Medusa but tonight (or early tomorrow morning) his constellation will be showering down on Earth. In other words, the peak time to see the Perseids Meteor Shower will be tonight between midnight and dawn. Put on some coffee because it's going to be a late night out!

Today in automotive history and today
Today in 1903 the first Ford,
a two-cylinder Model A,
was delivered to its buyer.

Today today (2009) Ford Motor Co. posted a second-quarter profit of $2.8 billion as the other two U.S. car manufactures come out of "poor management related" (cough cough) bankruptcy bothleaner, stronger, etc. and ready to ummmm... ummm... make cars and profit? I MEAN I MEAN bankruptcy due to unforeseen (except by the management at Ford) economic changes.
DON'T judge me. I grew up in a GM family and worked at Chrysler for almost 13 years. Just telling it how I see it.
