My Jan. 1st involves making Rugelah for a friend's annual party. No, I'm not Jewish. No, I'm not a baker. No, I'm not sure how I got involved with this tradition.
Here is the fist pic from the new DSLR. Well not the first pic I took since this is IMG_0032 but it's the first pic I will post. Maybe I will follow up with what they look like when all these ingredients are mixed together and baked. Stay tuned!

A sunny day makes for lines and/or stripes on my bedroom wall. (See previous post of such phenomenon.) Yea, pretty boring but I have things to do.Monday, November 22, 2010

41/52: Tradition
No, it's not Easter! A tradition when I was growing up was to put hard boiled eggs in pickled beets so they would turn purple. A lot of the time the beets were grown in our garden and then canned by my mom. It was always a favorite back then so I tried it again in my old age (but with store bought beets.) Delicious!Sunday, October 3, 2010

34/52: Landmark

Tobico Marsh, located just north of Bay City, Michigan, and part of the Bay City Recreation Area, was designated as a registered National Natural Landmark in 1976 because of its large size, relatively undisturbed condition and variety of aquatic plant life. With nearly 2,000 acres of wetland woods, wet meadows, cattail marshlands and oak savannah prairies, Tobico Marsh is one of the largest remaining freshwater, coastal wetlands on the Great Lakes.Sunday, August 15, 2010
33/52: Home
Home for rent. Open floor plan of approximately 1 square foot. Complete with cedar walls and a great view. This bat home went up on my chimney this spring and still no renters. According to BatConservation.org:
- Where you mount your bat house plays a major role in the internal temperature. Houses can be mounted on such structures as poles, sides of buildings and tall trees without obstructions. Houses placed on poles and structures tend to become occupied quicker than houses placed on trees. (check)
- Should face south to southeast to take advantage of the morning sun and need to receive at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight. (check)
-It is also advantageous to paint the house black to absorb plenty of heat. (yea, I don't think so)
- Should be mounted at least 15 feet above the ground, the higher the house the greater the chance of attracting bats. (check)
- Most houses used by bats are occupied in the first 1 to 6 months during the first summer the bat house was erected. (3 months to go)
- If bats do not roost by the end of the second summer, move the house to another location. (yea, I don't think so)
