Today in witch history

Today in 1692 the Salem witch hunt began.

Tonight (2009) as I was flipping tv channels I came across the movie remake of Bewitched being shown on a broadcast network television station.

Coincidence?

spam as good food

Sure spam is annoying but every once in awhile it can be amusing:

An avocado pit takes a coffee break, and a paycheck goes to sleep; however, the fat briar patch wisely derives perverse satisfaction from another polygon. For example, the turn signal indicates that another insurance agent behind a bullfrog hardly sanitizes a greasy customer.

2 weeks of recovery

Which face represents the pain of winter?
The pain of boredom?
The pain of unemployment?
The pain of recession?
The pain of the unknown?
The pain of eating an entire bag of potato chips?
For the third time this week?

Change

What kind of wine goes with a late winter Joint Session of Congress? In a Blue State that would be a syrah (pronounced shiraz if you're Down Under). Rich and full.

The Oscar goes to...

my belly.

All this talk about the Oscars just makes me want a hotdog with ketchup and mustard and relish and onions... mmm-mmm. Who am I wearing? Just a little Heinz. I would like to thank my gut for not rejecting this delicious meal.

Too bad this is a rooster.
A St. John beach rooster at that.
Because I loves me some chicken.

7 days

I'm getting tired of the recovery program.
Today is one week since the slicing and dicing.
Well I hope there was only slicing.
It's not like they were making a stir-fry.

I think I may need a recovery haiku.
Or maybe a pic of dead hydrangeas will do.
They may even get me back in the mood.
Where are the pain pills?
Haiku THIS is not.

Look into my eyes.

Looking back at recent postings of groundhogs and prairie dogs made me realize I have ignored my favorite rodent of all.

This evil one was spotted in my garden last fall. Click the pic for a better view of the eyes of Satan!

Green green grass

Yesterday's post is a result of going on a tropical vacation in the middle of a Michigan winter. You return and it's cold and it's snowy. Worst of all, it's cold and snowy. Two weeks ago that groundhog said "Six More Weeks of Winter!" so that leaves... you guessed it... four weeks of winter. (That's meteorologist math for rodents.) Soon I will come up with a topic that isn't related to my hate of winter... maybe. In the mean time here is a pic of my backyard last summer:

Slowly

This is how I've been moving around the last few days. Well, not as graceful as this snail was. I'm just referring to his speed. He was one of the many creatures on St. John and was lounging poolside with us.

Pain relief

Lying on the couch all day in pain of about an 11 on a 1-10 scale I began wondering what kind of wine goes with double inguinal hernia repair. A light sauvignon blanc (or fumé blanc as it may be called) would probably be the perfect choice.

Prairie Dog Day

I see my shadow. Do you see my shadow. I have a shadow. What does this mean? Where's that darn Groundhog when you need him?
~
~
I'm 9 days late with my burrowing rodent celebration but I saw the prairie dogs at the zoo yesterday AND then I discovered that out west they have been referring to Feb 2nd as "Prairie Dog Day" for about 6 years now. I wonder if Phil knows of this. He may have a grievance to file with the rodent union.

Harbinger of spring?

Today while waiting in the Henry Ford clinic (for about 3 hours) I got to watch a flock of robins in the trees outside. More robins than anyone can imagine. The trees still had some berries on them that the robins were having for brunch. Are these the first robins of spring? Or just a bunch of lazy robins that didn't leave this frozen never land and head south?
(Come to find out after a quick google search: Although the appearance of a robin is considered a harbinger of spring, the American Robin actually spends the winter in much of its breeding range. However, because they spend less time in yards and congregate in large flocks during winter, you're much less likely to see them.)
Of course I didn't take my camera with me... I mean who would need a camera on a trip to the clinic... so here's an internet pic...

How big is your stone?

Today's biblical lesson: when David went forward to fight Goliath, he was armed with little besides a sling and his wit. I have been told he did NOT have any anti anxiety medication with him. What do YOU see in his eyes?

Sunday's proverb

A Sunday well-spent
brings a week of content.
.
Today was the day of the pre-vacation gathering. Kind of an acclimation of sorts. And then the nap brought on by too much breakfast. Nonetheless a Sunday well-spent.
And then you wonder what kind of wine goes with a Sunday well-spent. Perhaps pinot noir?

Dinner time

...and my zucchini is soggy. Don't you just hate a soggy zucchini? My zucchini wasn't quite as fresh as the ones pictured here. My zucchini wasn't fresh at all. It was pretty much sliced and then fresh frozen and packaged for sale with a stamp "BEST BY 07/2010". Another year and a half and my zucchini will be as fresh (frozen) as it is tonight. After that it starts being not so good. Maybe even soggier? Satisfaction guaranteed or double your purchase price refunded. I wouldn't feel right requesting double my purchase price due to soggy. I assume the soggy was a result of my microwaving abilities. I'll try the stove top method tomorrow night.
Yum-O!

What am I doing?

Thinking of what to write, what to say, what to blog.
(You probably don't care what I'm doing but twitter seems to...)
How about a St. Croix sunrise... maybe I'll blog that.

With each sunrise, we start anew.

Touching, isn't it.

Change, where is it?

Hey, it all still feels the same. Where is this change? How long is it going to take for this change? I'm ready and waiting for change!!! What do I have to do to make change happen? So what kind of wine goes with change? I'm not sure yet... but chardonnay goes well with waiting for change.... and boy am I waiting.

Old and cold

Spending time at the university this week has made me feel old. One thing I did discover is they have a need for valet parking. It was such a long walk in the sub-zero windchill. Maybe preferred parking for over 40?

Cheesy goodness

Is the spinach in a bowl of Spinach con Queso really necessary when all we want is the cheese and the fried tortilla chips? Would you like another pound of fried chips? Well yes please and HURRY! All I can think of at the moment is how the french fries would have tasted with the cheese dip poured all over them. Oh and a stomach pump. How much is a personal stomach pump?

(Since my posting I have been informed via email that the spinach is the fiber to counter the effects of the binding cheese... thank you very much. Oh, and being as it is now the next morning I have proof the spinach was in fact useful.)

Lapsang Souchong

After a long 30 to 35 minutes in the unemployment office it is relaxing to enjoy a hot cup of a distinctive tea with an exotic smoky flavor.
