More garden - Less grass - Part 2

The grass WILL NOT die! Too much rain. Not enough heat. Some day perhaps.

Still, all the herbs are up and growing and most of the veggies have been planted.

Progress is slow here on the suburban farm.

Green Strawberries

GOT STRAWBERRIES!    (But they're green.)

Week 20 of 2011 - My Passion

Growing plants.

This geranium cutting was also the subject of my Week 05 of 2011 for the subject Water. Cut from a plant on my front porch in the fall of 2010 and after spending the winter rooting in a shot glass of water it was finally potted and has bloomed. Next step: outdoors for the summer!

Week 19 of 2011 - Give Me Flowers

Many thanks for the flowers.

Now give me STRAWBERRIES!

Week 18 of 2011 - SOOC

SOOC = "Straight Out Of Camera" = No Post Processing.

When I woke up today the sun was shining through the windows making these leaves glow.

Week 17 of 2011 - Architecture

National Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church.

I pass this architecture quite often while driving on Woodward Avenue but today the blue sky, fluffly white clouds and green green grass just beaconed for a photo opp. (And I just happened to have my camera!) An example of the zig-zag art deco style, it was completed in two stages, from 1931 to 1936. Click here for an original photo from the past.

Week 16 of 2011 - Reflections

Reflection of the Oriental Garden’s bridge - Cranbrook.

More garden - Less grass

It was decided that the grass strip between the veggie garden and the fence shrubs needs to go. Now who's going to remove it for me. Just seems like too much work.

Week 15 of 2011 - Time/If I Only Had Time...

So many clocks remind me of time passing. If I only had time I wouldn't wait until the last day of the week to take my photo. (Or in this case: photos.)

Week 14 of 2011 - Motion

Ceiling fan in motion. I taped a flash light to a blade for effect. I'm just glad it didn't shoot off and put my eye out!

Week 13 of 2011 - High Key

High Key Phoptography: unnaturally bright lighting to blow out most or all harsh shadows in an image. Here is a Klondike Azalea bud from the back yard that I've been trying to force bloom in my bay window. It's going on 42 days now. The bud in the back is ready, but has been ready for a week. COME ON!

Note: this is my first pic that required the use of bubble wrap, painter's tape and a 250 watt shop light.

Decay (Old / Abandoned) - Runner up

This is what I had planned on posting for last week's theme but wasn't all that pleased with the look of this pic taken from my car window while exiting from I-94 onto I-75 here in the D with my little Canon Powershot. I tried again another day on the way home from work with the Canon Rebel DSLR but not so easy while driving, and the shoulders have so much garbage on them I was afraid I would get a flat if I pulled over.

Week 12 of 2011 - Decay

An old stove decaying in my backyard as yard-art. I "found" this last summer while cleaning out my mother's old shed before tearing it down. My father probably got it in a garage sale many, many years ago.

A close up of the tag: US Stove Co.

SUPERMOON

Last night we had a Supermoon.
The moon looked this way because it was just 211,565 miles away from the earth.
That's the closest its been since March of 1993.

Week 11 of 2011 - Texture

This piece of coral from a Caribbean trip has been sitting on my dining room table for quite some time now. It's from the island of Nevis from the spring of 2010. Today I discovered its texture while using my macro extender lens.

Dare I say the snow has mostly melted?

I went outside a few weekends ago and could see grass and dirt and earth so I screamed "goodbye snow" and of course it snowed another 5 inches that night. This time I will not scream it but blog it since I do not think Mother Nature follows my blog. But she should.

The snow is mostly gone now and it kind of amazes me that in my garden the strawberries (top of pic) and lettuce (bottom of pic) are still green and alive.

Week 10 of 2011 - Vanishing Point

My chimney from ground level vanishing into the gray dusk sky. I was working SO much this week that I didn't as much procrastinate as just didn't find the time to take a pic for the week. At the few last moments of light today I decided my chimney would be a good subject for this theme. I mean me and my chimney have a history! (See Chim Chim Cheree.)

Tiny centrosaurus

I bought an accessory for my camera from Photojojo.com and it arrived with a small centrosaurus in the package!

I also recently bought a lens extension tube to take macros with my current zoom lens.

It was like Photojojo knew I needed a subject to photograph.

Week 09 of 2011 - Diptych

I've been waiting for this to bloom for over a year now. I guess the 99 cent plants require patience.

Week 08 of 2011 - Looking Through a Window

Looking through my dining room window I see my neighbor's Christmas decorations that are LONG overdue to be put away. Frosty was also captured on Christmas Eve glowing in season: http://www.flickr.com/photos/micheric248/5288916875/

Week 07 of 2011 - Love

I love wine but not as much the morning after. And no these wern't all from last night. Only the Raven's Wood in the front. I save the bottles with interesting labels and the ones that I love more.

Week 06 of 2011 - Shadows

Wasn't sure what to do for shadows (wasn't feeling inspired) and then I had THIS thought. I've never done hand shadows "professionally" so I had to look it up online.

Week 05 of 2011 - Water

This piece of last summer's geranium has been rooting in a shot glass of water on my kitchen windowsill.

I wanna take you home.

I won't do you no harm, no.

You've got to be all mine, all mine.

Ooh, foxy lady.

The tag on the plants said they were called Foxy.

Groundhog Blizzard

Groundhog Day Snowapalooza 2011.

For a blizzard it was quite a let down here in the D!
Thankfully Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring.

Week 04 of 2011 - Season Winter

Another snow came last night.

Here it is on my Vanderwolf's pine.

Week 03 of 2011 - Memories

Some of my dad's tools from when I was a kid. They are looking for a place to be stored in my workbench.

Week 02 of 2011 - This Is Me

It IS!

7 1/2 inches

Refer to the post on Wednesday October 14, 2009 concerning "2 1/2 inches"

Today's project fun: new sump pump! Even in winter the sump pump can fail. By fail I mean would not shut off and then when I unplugged it, it wouldn't come back on! So impromptu project day!

Loads of fun... until the power cord was 7 1/2 inches too short!

Where's my electrician?

Week 01 of 2011 - I Wish

I wish I had lobster and not this kibble.

My mom's cat Charlie was not impressed with the new camera! He was featured here before as "The Body."

Here is the fist pic from the new DSLR. Well not the first pic I took since this is IMG_0032 but it's the first pic I will post. Maybe I will follow up with what they look like when all these ingredients are mixed together and baked. Stay tuned!

52.5/52: Future

Today the 52.5 photos of 2010 comes to an end. Tomorrow starts a new year and a new photo challenge with a new camera. Thanks Santa!

52/52: Night Street

Christmas night. My City. All in white.

Merry Christmas Bloggers

Full Tilt

The Earth's axis will hit full tilt with the North Pole angled 23.5 degrees away from the sun at 6:38 p.m. EST today. Now the days will gradually grow longer!

Even the dead of winter, the mounds of snow and the lack of sunshine can't stop my Fargesia Rufa (bamboo) from looking good!

51/52: Red

From my "Green Room."

Well carp!

I just joined Flickr! I had a personal "issue" with Yahoo! in the past and cancelled my accounts. Moved it all to Google. Refused to rejoin. Blah blah blah. I guess my private protest did nothing to Yahoo!'s bottom line. SO today I tried to look at a picture and it sent me to Flickr. Before I hit the big red X to close the web page I noticed this statement: "Sign in with Google." SO I signed in with Google and it automatically made me a Yahoo! account. Thanks. Now I cannot blame myself for crossing my own picket line.

.

Now I can maybe join the 52 of 2011 Flickr group and show my weekly photos to the WORLD!

My Flickr <-clickr there

50/52: Music

This is Konstaunse. A lot of times I called her Konny. She hasn't been out of her case since I graduated from high school. Yes, we used to name our musical instruments!

Dogma

Happy Immaculate Conception Day!

Italy is on holiday today and here is another pic from downtown Cento I took last week.

Mary's role and person are captured in the four Marian dogmas:
1 Divine Motherhood
2 Perpetual Virginity
3 Immaculate Conception
4 Assumption

49/52: Window or Door

How about a Window AND a Door! These were found in downtown Cento Italy this last week. I figured traveling about 4500 miles deserved 2 photos! And this brings a reason to why I bought a tiny point and shoot a few weeks ago. I wanted to travel light.

48/52: Lines or Stripes

A sunny day makes for lines and/or stripes on my bedroom wall. (See previous post of such phenomenon.) Yea, pretty boring but I have things to do.

2 YEARS OF THIS

Today marks the end of the second year of

This is Eric's Blog.

.

There was no fanfare.

There was no parade.

There was no day off work and school.

.

Hell, I even forgot about it and posted this two days later. Doesn't ANYONE care?

.

.

In case you haven't been paying attention:

11/22/2008 - blog begins with a posting EVERYDAY (Something to say)
and soon after I became (happily) unemployed.

11/22/2009 - not much to say everyday anymore so blog goes into sporadic limbo.

1/1/2010 - blog turns into a photo a week project!

10/2010 - I get off my lazy butt and go back to 9-5 work.

11/22/2010 - 2 year celebration with a new, smaller camera arriving in the mail.

Sorry G9, but you can be just a bit bulky at times.

More later on why I bought a smaller point and shoot and not a kick-ass DSLR like an inspiring master photographer like myslef should have. Stay tuned!

47/52: The Body

I'm not really into taking pics of people bodies. I didn't get out to take pics of water bodies. I didn't remember to take a pic at work of a car body. What other bodies are there? What to post? What to post? Here's a cell phone pic of my mom's cat Charlie. He's got the body alright!

46/52: Urban

This first pic was taken on the morning of October 17, 2010 of a local urban intersection down the street from where I live as part of my collage for the theme "My Day."

.

4 weeks later the same intersection shows the urban renewal taking place here. Once a grocery store but soon a movie and bowling megaplex complete with overpriced cocktails!

45/52: Sky or Clouds

How about Sky AND Clouds.
